Mary Sharp has been elected President of the Charleston Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). She has long been active in the organization.
Mary is an AV Preeminent-rated attorney. She has been recognized as a South Carolina Super Lawyer. She is also a certified mediator, and currently serves as a municipal judge for the City of Beaufort. Mary contributes to the legal profession through active involvement with the South Carolina Bar, and to the local community through service on the boards of several community-based non-profit organizations. She is also a leader on the national and state levels on issues involving women and women lawyers.
ABOTA was founded in 1957 with the purpose of preserving the civil jury trial. ABOTA members display skill and integrity in an effort to assist younger attorneys with achieving a higher level of trial advocacy and to educate the public about the importance of the Seventh Amendment. This mission is accomplished by:
• Elevating the standards of integrity, honor, and courtesy in the legal profession,
• Aiding attorneys in furthering their education and training as trial lawyers,
• Establishing relations and cooperating with other legal organizations and associations for the purposes of promoting justice and improvement of the law, and
• Cultivating loyalty, fellowship, and professionalism among ABOTA members.
